The city of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is a city of about 180,000 people located just north of Miami. The city is a beautiful one with mild temperatures, lots of sunshine, and hundreds of activities. The city was first named Fort Lauderdale in recognition of the United States fort that was built during the Second Seminole War. The fort, which was built in 1838, became the center of the colonization which began in the 1890s. Population of the area then saw several major increases in the 1920s, the 1960s, and again in the 2000s.

Fort Lauderdale features nearly seven miles of beaches which are visited by residents and tourists every day. The city is also surrounded by many parks, and is the location of one of the most popular cruise ports, Port Everglades. Hundreds of cruises with many different destinations leave from this port every year.
