The city of West Palm Beach, Florida, was incorporated just two years before Miami in 1894. The community first began as a small group of individuals who made their living selling tropical fruits and vegetables. The settlers were nestled along Lake Worth, and enjoyed a prosperous beginning in the area.
The population of West Palm Beach exploded in the 1920s, but decreased again with the depression in the 30s. World War II brought a revival of the city when the Palm Beach Air Force Base was built bringing along with it thousands of new residents. Since this time, population has steadily increased bringing the number of residents up to an estimated population of 108,896.
