DeSoto County is located near the western coast of Florida in the southern part of the state. It has a population of around 35,000, and the county seat is Arcadia. The county was formed in 1887 from Manatee County, and was named after the famous Spanish explorer who explored much of Florida in the 1500s.

The county has many things that make it a desirable place to live. There are many charming communities in the area which boast a friendly atmosphere. The scenery itself is beautiful with citrus groves, rivers, lakes, and trees. The county sees many days of sunshine every year making it a great place for those who enjoy warm and mild weather.

DeSoto County is home to the Peace River which is an ideal place for families to go on weekends to enjoy swimming, camping, canoeing, hiking, and many other leisure activities. The area has been voted as Florida’s Best Small Town Antiquing spots, and there are dozens of antique shops hiding treasures within their walls. Members of the community have also worked hard to beautify the county by creating many parks and recreational areas for residents of all ages. Those who live here enjoy a high quality of life.

The county seat, Arcadia, lies at the center of the county and forms a central location from which many of the highways proceed. This makes many other areas of the state of Florida easily accessible from this part of the county. Punta Gorda is within miles, as is Lake Okeechobee, Fort Meyers, and all of the western coast making DeSoto County a great central location.
