Palm Beach County in Florida is a county that has a population of a little over 1,300,000. It is the third most populous in the state after Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

The county was established in 1909. Parts of Dade County were taken to be part of this new county. The area was named after the first settlement in the area, Palm Beach, and was made up of many areas of land that are now a part of other counties. The boundaries as they are today were not established until 1963.

Palm Beach County is both a successful, and a very wealthy county. This area boasts the greatest number of wealthy residents, with a per capita personal income of over $44,000. Palm Beach County has a flourishing economy as well, with a thriving agricultural industry in addition to its tourism.

The area of Palm Beach includes many beautiful natural and historic sites. The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse, located where the Jupiter Inlet meets the Indian River, is the oldest historical site still standing in the county. It was constructed in the 1850s by order of Franklin Pierce who saw the area as an excellent place for military strategy. The lighthouse was officially lit in 1860. Today it operates as a museum and tourist destination. Visitors can climb the lighthouse stairs and view the ocean from the top.

Palm Beach County encompasses many other beautiful areas and landmarks. With the Everglades to the south, the coast of the Atlantic Ocean to the East, and the expanse of Lake Okeechobee to the northwest, the county is full of natural beauty.
