Sumter County, located near the center of the state of Florida, is a county with a population of around 97,000. It was created in 1853 from Marion County, and was named after Thomas Sumter, a famous general in the American Revolution. The county seat of Sumter County is Bushnell, which has a convenient central location in the county.
